Greenville, SC – Scavenger Hunt around Main Street

Greenville, SC is a little under a two hour drive from Athens, GA. I’ve been wanting to visit there for a while and thought the perfect time would be when my parents were in town. We piled in the car one Friday morning and made the drive to Greenville with no set plan in place. I only had two stops in mind: Splash on Main and Paula Rallis Home. The rest was whatever we felt like!

Since Paula Rallis wasn’t on or near Main Street we decided to stop there first. What a beautiful store! I’ll just let the pictures do the talking! I wanted to take everything home!

Our next stop was Main Street, we decided to just part wherever we could and wander around for a bit. We parked by Mast General Store (this is a great store if you like outdoorsy things!) and walked around. Main Street has a lot of stores and we went into many of them. There are a mix of chain and independent stores but I think the only chain we stopped by was Lululemon. Other than that it was all independent stores. I would definitely recommend Vintage Now Modern (I bought a lamp there), Splash on Main (the best swimsuit collection I have seen) and Mast General Store.

While checking out at Mast General Store, the cashier told us about the Scavenger hunt around Main Street and the story behind it. I have heard two slightly different versions: Apparently an Eagle Scout/high school senior designed a scavenger hunt for his final project around Main Street. It is called Mice on Main. There are nine small bronze mice hidden around Main Street and you have to find them. A few years later a story book was written about the mice.

Mast General Store gave us a cheat sheet when we left but we didn’t have time to go looking. We had found one earlier (I won’t say where) but didn’t have any luck finding the others while walking back to the car.

We headed back to Athens after that. I would like to go and spend more time in Greenville. I want to finish the scavenger hunt, try out some of the restaurants, and also check out some of the hiking/walking trails. It definitely appears to be a booming town and the downtown seems to be thriving! Not only that but there was a lot of construction around so it appears to be growing!
