Ferry Boat to Bainbridge Island and The Gum Wall

If you are a fan of Grey’s Anatomy you will be very accustom to a ‘Ferry Boat’. McDreamy had a thing for them. I couldn’t go all the way to Seattle and not take a ferry boat! We actually started the day by walking over to the flagship REI store. It was a trek! However, if you like outdoor stores it is well worth a visit. It is huge! Also, if you are not a member I would recommend becoming one. It is a one-time fee of $30 and then you get 10% back on most items in the form of a gift card at the end of the year (I just received mine for 2022).

Since it was so hot and it felt like we had just walked across the whole of Seattle, we decided to take an Uber to the Seattle Ferry Terminal. It is located at Pier 52 on the Seattle Waterfront. I believe it is called Colman Dock. They also have ferries there that go to Bremerton. We showed up about 30 minutes before the ferry was schedule to leave. The tickets are easy to buy and you only need to pay for Seattle to Bainbridge. The way back is free! I think it was a little over $9 for a ticket.

They load the cars up first and then the people walking on get to board. It looked like a lot of people but there was PLENTY of space! The breeze on board felt amazing and the views were beautiful!

We walked around Bainbridge Island for a bit and stopped and looked in some of the stores. We also ate at a small Mexican restaurant (we shared nachos) before heading back to the ferry!

The Gum Wall

The pier is also not a long walk from Pike Place Market. I already briefly mentioned it here. If you find yourself in the area make sure to check out the Famous Gum Wall. Look for an alley called Post Alley. It is both interesting and gross at the same time. Apparently it started in the 1990s when performers and patrons from Unexpected Productions would stick their gum on the wall…I also read it has been cleaned twice, once in 2015 and again in 2018. This is to help preserve the wall since the weight and sugar can cause damage.

Other Recommendations

A few other recommendations – if you are a chocolate fan stop by Fran’s Chocolate!

Book a ticket for the Underground Tour of Seattle! This was really interesting to see. You literally see how Seattle was built on top of itself. The groups are quite large but still worth it.

If you need another dinner recommendation, on the last night we went to Café Campagne. It’s a small Parisian Café in Pike Place Market.  It has a really laid back and relaxed feel. We all had the burgers and they were great! Be aware they close/stop serving at 8pm.

That’s a wrap on Seattle!

Thanks for reading and let me know if are in Seattle.
