Above Athens Balloon festival, Athens, GA 28th September 2019

A couple of weeks ago Athens had its Annual Above Athens Balloon Festival. I have wanted to go on a hot air balloon ride since I was little when my mum gave my dad one for his birthday. They had an extra spot at the time but I was not tall enough to see over the basket so I was not allowed to go! I am still working on trying to plan a hot air balloon ride, but when I saw the festival was coming up in Athens I thought it would be fun to go to!

Hannah, her sister, and I headed over to Sandy Creek Park about an hour after the festival started. I knew there would be a line to get in but the staff at Sandy Creek really kept that line moving! We paid the $5 to get in and went and parked the car.

In addition to all the balloons, they also had food trucks and other vendors. After getting some shaved ice, we headed to the balloon rides! The rides are tethered but it is still fun to go up! The experience has actually made me want to book a balloonride even more now! After our ride we headed to the food trucks to get some dinner. Hannah and I both got savory crepes – ham and cheese! After eating, we decided to leave since it was still so hot out! Even though it was officially Fall it still felt like summer. I’m not sure if you are familiar with summers in Georgia but let’s just say it is an experience!

If you live in the Athens area I would recommend checking out the Balloon Festival next year! It is a fun activity and something different to do!

Best,
