Table Rock Hike, SC

I figured I would take a short break from the Marrakech posts and share with you what I got up to a few weekends ago (The Table Rock Hike)! Last year I acquired a bit of a hiking/trekking obsession what with The Lost City and El Mirador; and I have another one planned for this year. I thought it would be good to get a bit of practice in since I didn’t do that for the last two! I don’t think I really knew what I was getting myself into with The Lost City and I definitely felt it!

One of my friends, Alex, who is an avid hiker has suggested I try the Table Rock hike in South Carolina. She told me it had some good elevation which is generally lacking in Georgia and the surrounding area. We made plans to meet in Lavonia at 7 a.m. one Saturday so we could ride together to the Table Rock State Park. The plan was to be some of the first people there since the parking lot fills up quickly.

We made it there around 8:30 a.m., checked in (on that slip of paper you drop off) and set off. Both of us thought it was going to be very cold but after 10-15 minutes we ended up taking layers off! This was a really great hike where you have to scramble over boulders as you get closer to the top. It had rained the day before so some of the rocks were a bit slippery. We made it to the top in a little less than 2 hours. I think we stopped, maybe, twice. It did get chilly as we got closer to the top, so up there we were trying to add the layers back!

The views at the top were beautiful! Alex pointed out a lot of the other hikes in the area. One in particular, White Water Falls (via the Foothills Trail), is now on my list to do!

As we came back down we started to see a lot more people. I would definitely recommend getting there early if you want to beat the crowds.

We got back a few minutes after noon and so round trip it took a little under 4 hours. The hike is a total of 6.4 miles with an elevation gain of 2240 ft. If you do not have a South Carolina State Park pass (All Park Pass – $99 for a year) make sure to bring cash because there is an entrance fee (adults – $6)! You can find more information specifically on the Table Rock State park and the Table Rock Hike here

Lots of Love,
