Ride the Slide – ArcelorMittal Orbit

For those who like a bit of an adrenaline rush and will be in or around London I have just the thing for you! Ride the Slide! The ArcelorMittal Orbit slide. It is located in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and is a lot of fun and also a bit scary at the same time. If you plan on going make sure you book ahead to ensure you get a ticket. They can sell out, especially around the holidays. Prices start at £10.50.

Not only is The ArcelorMittal Orbit one of the world’s tallest public artworks but is also the world’s tallest and longest slide measuring 178 meters! It will be the quickest £10.50 you have ever spent since the slide lasts about 40 seconds. Riders are expected to hit speeds of 15 miles an hour (24 kph) and experience 12 twists including a corkscrew, aptly named “bettfeder” (bed spring in German) in the light and dark. It finishes with a 50 meter straight down at the end. What more could you ask for?

The ArcelorMittal Orbit is located close to a Westfield (shopping anyone?) and is easy to get to by public transport. Once you arrive you head up to the top in an elevator. People who do not want to ride the slide can still go up (with an entrance fee). Even if you do not want to ride the slide the views at the top are beautiful! You can see all of London and are right next to the Olympic Stadium. Once up there you get in line and as you wait they provide you with what you need to ride the slide. You have to wear a head protector plus sit in these bag things. They will tell you all about it up there.

I was a little nervous when it was my turn but the whole experience (40 seconds) was a lot of fun! It really gets your adrenaline going and once I was at the bottom I wanted to go again! However, there was no time as I was off to Fortnum & Mason for Tea!

Check out the slide if you are in the area! It is definitely worth it!
