4th of July Fireworks in Athens

A little late; but better late than never! I always try and use the single day holidays we get over here in America as a short trip but this year since I had just recently got back from Guatemala it was too close to the 4th to go somewhere again. Last year for the 4th I had actually been in Guatemala as well. See my posts on Tikal! Since I was in Athens for the 4th I thought I would go try and see some fireworks.

Athens puts on their firework display in downtown Athens (the weekend before the 4th) so Hannah and I decided to check it out, especially since we didn’t have to worry about parking! We walked down from my house a little early so we could have a wonder around the shops and also check out some of the stalls and activities they have out. Part of Clayton Street had been closed off and they had live music, shaved ice, stalls and other activities for younger children.

We went into some of the shops before finally heading to Starbucks to grab a drink. From there we went to North Campus to get a spot to watch the fireworks. We found what we thought was  a great spot and chatted (already planning the next trip) while waiting for the display to start. The show started as soon as it was dark but we realized from where we were we could not see. There was a mad rush of people to find a different spot! We ended up standing on the sidewalk watching the show from there. It lasted a good 15 minutes and did not disappoint!

If you are in Athens and looking for a fireworks show on the 4th of July I would recommend checking this one out! Plus, it is kid friendly if you have little ones! I have also heard Oconee County does on show of their own on the actual day. I haven’t been to that one but have heard it is good. Maybe I’ll make a note to check that one out next year if I am stateside! There is definitely plenty of time to plan for the next year!

Lots of Love,
