Designer Mini Bags!!

Today I am coming at you with an informative post about 3 of my (designer) mini bags! Mini bags have been very popular over the last few years and it is easy to understand why. They are easy and lightweight to carry around and you do not end up bringing the kitchen sink with you. Now don’t get me wrong – every now and then I love a big bag you can just throw everything into and not worry about space. Mini bags can sometimes be like Tetris. Every item must be put in and placed a certain way.

Today I wanted to talk about 3 mini bags that I have in my collection. I wanted to give you my thoughts on each. What I think their pros and cons are.

Drew // Gucci // Chanel

First up…The Chloe Drew bag in the size mini.

This is a very small bag so you really have to be ruthless when choosing what to take with you. I love the colour of this bag and think the gold hardware complements it perfectly. Some may say that the chain can get uncomfortable but I have not found that. I think that because you cannot fit a lot in there it keeps the chain from digging in like it would if the bag was a bit bigger.

I like the chain length on this bag. It is perfect to wear cross body and/or on the shoulder. The clasp has 3 parts (for lack of a better word for it) to it. It is magnetic with a twist lock that further locks with a little pin. I have heard some people talk about the hardware scratching. I have not yet had that happen to my bag but I think it is somewhat inevitable over time. Also, I sometimes find that the clasp can be a little fiddley, especially if I am in a hurry.

I love wearing this bag in the spring and summer because I find that the chain gives it that summer festival vibe (sort of what Chloe is known for) and the light colour is perfect for the warmer months. I have not experienced and colour transfer (knock on wood) but it is something I am weary about. For me the pros far outweigh the (very few) cons and I enjoy using this little bag.

Second up is the Gucci Soho Disco Bag.

I love the shape and size of this bag! It is a small bag that surprisingly carries quite a lot of stuff. What initially attracted me to this bag was the simplicity of it and the adjustable strap length. You can adjust this bag depending on where you want it and your height. I have it on the longest strap and it makes it the perfect length for wearing it cross body. It is so comfortable and easy to wear that you almost forget you are wearing a bag.

When I said I loved the simplicity of this bag, I think partly what lends its self to this is the logo. I like that it is just stiches on the bag. It is not too in your face. Also, the tassel on the bag is great (if you like tassels) because it makes the bag that bit easier to open. It also adds a nice extra feature to the bag while still keeping it classic.

Lastly, this bag retails for under $1000 (and comes in lots of colours). It is still a crazy amount for a bag but when it comes to designer bags that is a great price point.

Lastly, the Chanel Square mini in Caviar leather with silver Hardware.

To me the only downside of this bag is the price. Chanel prices are outrageous and constantly increasing. The plus side to this is if you pick a classic piece and look after it you should be able to get your money back and more if you ever want to sell it.

I love the caviar leather on this piece as well as the simple turn piece clasp. It is all just so elegant to me. This bag is so easily dressed up and down. I love that it can be worn for a Sunday brunch or an evening event.

As I mentioned with the Drew bag; you do have to be very selective with what you carry because the bag is so small.

The chain length of this bag is good. It could be a tad bit longer if you (are tall and) like to wear the bag cross body. You can definitely wear this bag cross body it just hits a little bit higher – some people may like that, others may not.

The Chanel mini is one of my favourite bags. It is classic that you cannot go wrong with!

Please let me know if you have any questions on these bags. I would be happy to answer them.

The Ivy London

I first heard about the restaurant ‘The Ivy’ 12 or 13 years ago and since it has been on my radar as a place I would like to try. After we got back from Amsterdam my sister and I were set to take a Gin making class in London (‘Buffington’s was to be my creation!). However, I had multiple problems when trying to book the class. First, the payment system, then whether I would even get the ticket on time (I couldn’t just pick it up) and then whether or not we would even be able to catch the last train home! It was obviously not in the stars! My mum then suggested we all go up to town for dinner instead.
The first restaurant that popped into my head was naturally the Ivy! I managed to get a last booking and put it on the calendar! Since I was free that day I decided that I would go up a little early and have a wonder around the shops. We would then we would all meet later at the restaurant.  I made my way up and my first stop was Harrods, obviously. I love to look around Harrods, not just for their beautiful pieces but simply to people watch. The species of human that walk around are astonishing.  After hitting a few more of the shops I finally made my way to The Ivy.

The Ivy has been around since 1917 and is in the West End, by many of the theaters. It recently went through a renovation but still has the art deco feel! I love the coloured glass and that it just has an old timer’s classic feel to it (they take your coat and pull out your chair for you!). We were sat right away and made our way thoroughly through the menu. After a round of drinks (good ol’ Gin n’ Tonics) we put in our order.

We started with the Giant Tiger Prawns for an appetizer. From there it was onto Crab Macaroni, courgette, ricotta & pea Risotto, double pork sausages (bangers and mash) for everyone and a cheeky second drink (dirty vodka martini).

Now, no matter how much you eat, there is always room for dessert! My sister always says regular food goes to your stomach but dessert goes to the heart, not what our dietician mother wants to hear!

For dessert we got an array of things: Chocolate pudding soufflé (my favourite!), sticky toffee pudding and Bramley apple crumble pie.

With full bellies we strolled slowly back to Waterloo to catch the next train home.

Leather and Suede…

Faux Leather

I picked up this faux leather dress after Christmas in the sales and the price could not be beat (under $30)! I actually ended up wearing it on New Years Eve with these OTK boots (which are also suede) and wavy hair (not like the disaster going on in these pictures). I like the pairing of (faux) leather and suede because I feel that the suede softens the harshness of the leather. That is why I also like this dress with these shoes here, which by the way are some of the most comfortable shoes I own. The ties just add a little bit something extra!

This coat has been one of my best investments. It is so warm. I wore it when we went to France last year and it kept me toasty the entire time.

The Royal Peasant

IMG_0967OUTSIDE

Being from England and living in America (especially the South) has its obstacles; you can’t get good Pimms, you can’t have a classic rainy, cold ‘summer’ BBQ and you certainly can’t go for a stroll on the Heath! However, now you can have some good ‘ole pub food and The Royal Peasant fits the bill!

This small British Pub tucked away in the heart of Five Points is where you will find everything from half pints to crisps to bangers and mash….as well as some fish and chips! What more could a Brit ask for?!

The other afternoon my husband and I headed over there for a late lunch on my day off. We both had the Burger and a salad to share. I also recommend the house crisps, chicken curry and fish and chips (basically you can’t go wrong here!) While you are at it don’t forget to order a pint (of cider)…or half!

This is Corey’s mad face when I tell him I have to take a picture before starting!

Bag (under $30) // Glasses

I wore a dress I picked up a couple of weeks ago from Equipment. I love their stuff – it is so simple and comfortable, this dress especially because you can easily dress it up with these pumps (I wore this out for my husbands birthday back in May) or keep it casual for a pub lunch!

Online Window Shopping…

Candle // Dress // Shoes // Fragrance

Foundation // Trays // Card Case // Purse

I have been online window shopping again…Here are just a few things I stumbled across as I was looking at the Boxing Day sales online. I love Diptyque Candles! I think this Eucalyptus one would be a nice one since I find Eucalyptus to be really calming. I love this dress! The colour and the back! I think these shoes are super edgy and would really spice up an outfit. I read in Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty (a Christmas present from a friend) that he once said he “wants people to be afraid of the women [he] dresses” and that “there is a certain hardness to the clothes that makes [women] look powerful.” I definitely think this is true about these shoes. They are also on sale! I have this fragrance in the solid form and was just eyeing up the bottle to see what I think. The ’34’ solid is one of my favourites (post here).

This (newish) Laura Mercier  is one that I have had my eye on lately and also been reading about. I can’t wait to try it. I think these trays would look great on a side table in a living room. Their website has a bunch of pictures of how people have styled them. This card case would be great for not only credit cards and bills but also business cards. It is very classic and would not go out of style. I love this purse and think the size and style is great! So simple but with a little something extra with the chain and closure.

Have you guys found any great Boxing day sales?
