Juice Cleanse – 2 Day Detox

Have any of you ever completed a juice cleanse? I have always started them and never finished because I was so hungry. Well recently I tried one that I really liked and more importantly I finished it. A friend of mine recommended Arden’s Garden 2 Day Detox. They have a little shop on the corner of  Clayton Street and Collage Avenue, in downtown Athens, where she said she had been before to get lunch (they do fruit juices and smoothies). Well I made my way over to the shop one afternoon to stock up for the next 2 days (you can also order online).

The 2 day detox consists of drinking a gallon jug of juice that is a mix of freshly squeezed grapefruit, orange and lemon juice. With that you are also able to drink as much distilled water as you want. I found that because I was consuming so much liquid I rarely felt hungry. The only time I felt hungry was late in the evening on day 2. I was even able to work out while doing this (one of the days). I did not feel sluggish at all…in fact I felt like I had more energy. I dropped about 5 lbs doing this but the main factor for me was that it helped remove the cravings of sugar and junk food. I really wanted to eat clean after finishing this. I have completed this detox twice and enjoyed it both times. I will say that one time I did it while at work and another time on my days off. I found it a lot easier to do it while at work. I think it was because I was constantly busy.

Check out their website for more information.

Have any of you tried this juice cleanse? Are there any other ones that you recommend?

— Pauley’s Original Crepe Bar —

I had the chance to meet up with Virginia, a good friend of mine for Lunch today. Pauley’s in downtown Athens was our destination of choice since she had never been. When we sat down we started having a good chinwag and so it took us forever to order but when we did we, of course, over ordered.

Menu

We started with the Pesto Tartine (these are also good if you add chicken) however, I will say that the Chicken Tchoupitoulas are my favorite! You must try those if you go.

For mains my friend had a Ceasar salad and I had the roast beef crepe. With this we both shared the smashed potatoes (so good and such a good idea!) and the pesto pasta salad (I’m a huge fan of pesto if you cannot already tell – my husband says I could live off the stuff).

There was definitely no room for dessert but the smores crepe is amazing if you save room. I am also partial to the peanut butter crepe.

After our bellies were full we had a little wander around downtown where we found this guy!

After a few snaps we headed home with the promise of not waiting so long to see each other next time.

For those of you in Atlanta…keep an eye out because Pauley’s Atlanta opens soon! I cannot wait.

P.S. These boots are sooo comfortable and versatile. I love that you can dress them up or down and that they are a bit different…definitely a great piece and one that I have worn a lot. They come in a bunch of different colours in the suede and then also in a smooth black leather.

The Royal Peasant

IMG_0967OUTSIDE

Being from England and living in America (especially the South) has its obstacles; you can’t get good Pimms, you can’t have a classic rainy, cold ‘summer’ BBQ and you certainly can’t go for a stroll on the Heath! However, now you can have some good ‘ole pub food and The Royal Peasant fits the bill!

This small British Pub tucked away in the heart of Five Points is where you will find everything from half pints to crisps to bangers and mash….as well as some fish and chips! What more could a Brit ask for?!

The other afternoon my husband and I headed over there for a late lunch on my day off. We both had the Burger and a salad to share. I also recommend the house crisps, chicken curry and fish and chips (basically you can’t go wrong here!) While you are at it don’t forget to order a pint (of cider)…or half!

This is Corey’s mad face when I tell him I have to take a picture before starting!

I wore a dress I picked up a couple of weeks ago from Equipment. I love their stuff – it is so simple and comfortable, this dress especially because you can easily dress it up with these pumps (I wore this out for my husbands birthday back in May) or keep it casual for a pub lunch!

Flashback Friday

While I was back in England a few months ago I spent some time in Oxford….Since it is Flashback Friday I thought I would share.

When we arrived we headed straight to a lunch spot my sister recommended: Turf Tavern.

It is a small pub that you have to go down a small alley way to get to. It seems that other buildings were just built around it. It has so much character!

After a very filling lunch we headed to a covered market area where we yet again had more food…

These were amazing! While munching on cookies we explored more of the small shops.

What are some places you guys recommend when visiting Oxford? My sister now lives there so I know I will be back the next time I am across the pond.
