Our last day in France was spent visiting Château Royal d’Amboise, Clos Lucé (the home where Da Vinci spent the last 3 years of his life) and Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Chartres (famous for its stained glass windows). There was also a cheeky last pain au chocolat in there (how can you go to France and not?)! Enjoy.
First stop: Château Royal d’Amboise.
Next stop: Clos Lucé
Clos Lucé had many famous owners but one in particular was Leonardo da Vinci. In 1516, at age 64, Da Vinci left Rome for Amboise. King Francis appointed Da Vinci as the ‘The first painter, engineer and architect of the King’. While he lived at Clos Lucé worked on many different projects. It was while he was living here that he drew his famous Double Spiral Staircase.
In 1519 Da Vinci passed away at Clos Lucé in his room. There is lots to see her and the grounds are beautiful! Plus, you get to see and experience many of Davilas Vinci’s engineering marvels.
After all that walking around it was time for a quick rest break and a bite to eat!
On the way to the airport, our last stop: Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Chartres.
Overall a really good trip with excellent weather!
Lots of Love,
