*Picture Heavy Post – grab a cup of tea!*
Last week I spent a few days in France with my parents. After flying into Charles de Gaulle airport, just outside Paris, we jumped into a car and headed for Normandy – Bayeux specifically. Our first stop after checking into our hotel was Omaha Beach. It was actually a really nice drive over, through a bunch of really small towns, villages, and country stone homes. We got to Les Moulins and walked around the Musée Mémorial d’Omaha Beach before heading down to see the Omaha beach Memorial and Monument. The beach was a lot more open than I expected but that made it all the more breath taking.
After walking around for a bit we headed to Arromanches to see the remains of where an artificial port was built right after D-day. This port was built so the allied troops could offload men and materials efficiently during the invasion of Normandy.
I will say it was very cold – we were all bundled up!

That night we headed back to Bayeux and went for a walk around the town to find a place for dinner.

Early the next morning we headed to see the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial. This site was stunning – it sits on the cliff edge with the ocean below…after such a horrific battle the final resting place of the nearly 10,000 who gave up their lives felt very peaceful. We all left feeling very moved.
The was one last stop before driving onto the Loire Valley for some wine tasting. We stopped in Bayeux to find a boulangerie to pick up some sandwiches/bread for lunch.
Stay tuned for my next post where I share some pictures from the wineries we visited and the cave we stayed in – we were troglodytes for a few nights!
Lots of Love,
