King of Skin

Bag 3 ok

I just picked up a King of Skin from Lush this past week and I LOVE it! I had heard about this product before but never had the chance to try in so when I was in Atlanta, and by a Lush, I jumped at the chance. I really enjoy using their Ro’s Argan body conditioner (review here) and so had high hopes for the King of Skin.

Packaging King of skin use

This bar literally melts in your hand. The idea (at least what they told me in store) is that after you get out of the shower you just rub it all over yourself like a bar of soap. There is no need to rinse it off or anything – just towel off! It makes moisturizing soooo much easier and quicker. It is basically a solid bar of lotion that helps with dry skin. It is packed with mashed up bananas and avocados mixed in with oat milk and lavender. This bar not only smells great but it really does leave you skin feeling silky smooth. Another good thing is that this butter bar is far more affordable than their body conditioner. It is $13.95. I really would recommend picking up one of these to try if you happen to pass by a Lush! I will be up in Atlanta again this week so plan on having another quick stop by!

NYX Loose Pigment Smokey Eye

It has been a while since I did a makeup look. This is one I like to wear regularly because it really makes green eyes pop! However, it is still good for any eye colour. Keep reading if you want to see everything I used to complete this NYX loose pigment smokey eye look.

Shows shadow

I used a wide range of products and brushes as you can see below.

MAC Palettes, shadows, blushers, & Lipstick // Concealer // Foundation

Shadow Primer // Lash Primer // Mascara // Powder // Bronzer // Loose pigment

Brow Pencil // Estēe Lauder Highlighter // Powder Palette (I didn’t end up using these last 2)

I started by using the Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide Foundation (Review Here) with an Sigma F84 brush. For concealer I used the Estēe Lauder Double Wear concealer in light for under my eyes and light-medium for where I wanted any extra coverage. I used a beauty blender for this.  I then set this all with MAC Studio Fix Powder.

Powder act

For blush I used MAC Melba and for bronzer I used Bourjois Bronzing powder (which smells and looks like chocolate).

For eyebrows I used the Lancôme Le Crayon Poudre pencil in Sable. I usually use a dark matte eye shadow to fill in my brows but lately I have really liked this pencil.

Now for the eyes! I started off with one of my favourite eye shadow primers Too Faced Shadow Insurance. After that I pressed MAC sable all over my lids and then softly blended it out with a blending brush.

From there I used the MAC Sketch in the outer corner of my eye and through my crease. I finished off the shadow with NYX loose pigment in either Penny or Rust (my label came off). I took my MAC 239 brush and pressed this into the inner corner of my eye through to about the middle of my eye. I also took a little bit of this under my eye to make it a bit more smokey.

To finish the eyes, I curled my lashed then grabbed my new eyelash primer, Estēe Lauder’s Little Black Primer (review coming soon), and then their Sumptuous Extreme Mascara.

Lastly, for lips I used my new Lancôme Rouge in Love Lipstick in 200B – this is a great everyday colour. (Love these lipsticks!)

Stroll Around Downtown Athens

*LATE POST ALERT*

So this post is from way back before Christmas when the leaves were starting to change (as you will see from some of the pictures). A good friend of mine and myself headed downtown for lunch and also a nice wander around. She just got a new camera and so we also wanted to try it out! First shot was a mirror selfie!

With full bellies we went for a stroll. It was such a nice day – blue skies, sun, and a crisp breeze! Here are some snaps from downtown Athens.

My friend had to drop off a pair of boots so we popped in quickly and while she handed them over I snapped a quick picture. When you get in there, shoes surround you! They are everywhere. However, they always do a great job and are very honest with you.

Italian Dinner

The other night after I got off work my husband, a friend of mine and myself all headed out for an Italian dinner. It wasn’t anything fancy but just a laid back evening with good food. We headed to Depalma’s, a restaurant a few minutes down the road from us, and settled in a booth with the menus on hand.

We started with some fresh bread and olive oil and also some housemade focaccia bread with spinach and smoked gouda sauce.

Starter

This was followed by fettuccine with meat sauce for myself.

Spaghetti with meat sauce and meatballs plus a side salad for my husband.

And Shrimp Charmaine for my friend Jill.

Shrimp

Shrimp Charmaine – sautéed shrimp with a spicy sun–dried tomato, spinach & jalapeño cream sauce over fettuccine.

Everything was covered with shredded parmesan cheese!

We also paired this with a bottle of red wine! Nothing fancy.

Dinner was followed by dessert (we went all out! ha). The Chocolate Torte, Zuppa Inglese, and Cannoli were all brought to the table and quickly devoured.

Dessert

Zuppa Inglese – Sponge cake soaked with rum and expresso topped with chocolate and vanilla mousses.

Dessert Torte

Torte – filled with chocolate ganache and served a la mode

Cannoli

Cannoli – Italian pastry filled with sweetened ricotta cheese and chocolate chips.

I kept the evening casual with jeans, a sweater, boots, and a hat.

Running Errands

Neverfull // Earrings

I had a bunch of errands to run the other day and wanted to be comfortable but look nice. I decided to wear my favourite jeans (seen here, here, and here), a bright pink top, and some brown leather boots. I also added a blue quilted jacket because it has been really cold here lately.

Holding bag

These boots are sooo easy to wear even with the heel and I love that they zip up the back! I love that this top can easily be dressed up or down. Pair it with a pencil skirt and some pumps and it is office appropriate. The Neverfull is a great bag for running errands and traveling because it holds so much and can just be thrown over your shoulder.

This coat is such a great everyday coat because it keeps you warm and is not too dressy. I love that the inside is bright as well – adds some character. Joules makes really nice coats. I have a longer tweedish looking one that is dressier that I wear a lot in the evening.

Joules jacket

Lastly, my crystal necklace – The chain is from the Julie Vos coin pendant (seen here and here). The length of it is great! I wrapped a crystal in gold wire and made a hoop so it can be attached to different chains. This is the final product.

Favourite Boots

Boots 2

Highland // Newbury // Lowland // Anouk Boot // Jayden Cross Engineer

Coleen Quilted Boot // Hunter // Apogee // 5050 // ‘Paddy’ Chelsea Boot // Western Booties

I LOVE boots! Here are some of my favourite boots that I have seen this season. Firstly, the over-the-knee boot. Stuart Weitzman’s Highland boot is everywhere right now and with good reason. This boot comes a few inches above the knee and fits like a legging. The heel is 3.5 inches, which makes it not only comfortable to walk in but a boot that can be dressed up or down. The colour choice is also fantastic (love the Topo and Charcoal). The Newbury boot is a classic and also one that is so comfortable. This boot looks great with jeans, a white tee and a blazer. The Lowland – with the Highland being so popular and perfect why not make one that is flat!? A good pair of black high-heeled boots is a must for every wardrobe. This pair fits the bill nicely. You can never go wrong with a pair of Frye boots. I have some similar to this in a light brown colour and wear them all the time. They are so comfy and are made really well.

A pair of flat riding boots is another great staple through the winter. I love the quilting on the back of these. The price is also great! Growing up in England we always had wellies. I love these Hunter ones. They make rainy days and walking through puddles so much more fun! They also come in some great colours. I love these suede booties. They look so sleek and sophisticated with dark skinny jeans. The suede is buttery soft and they are so easy to get on. Another classic – The 5050’s which are great over-the-knee boots but ones that are not to the thigh. I feel like you either love or hate Chelsea boots. For those of you who love them this is a great pair. Lastly, these cowboy-ish Chloe booties – I thought these were fun…however they do not come with a fun price tag!

What are some boots you love this season? Let me know in the comments section below.

Laura Mercier Foundation Review

maybe

 Candle // Brush // Brush // Foundation // Powder

Bangles // Book 1 // Book 2 // Book 3

The foundation in question is the Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide Foundation.

Yes top of page

I have had this foundation a little less than 2 months and have been using at least a couple of days a week so that I can get a good grasp on what I think about it. I was very excited when I got it because I have read many good things about it. Lets start with what Laura Mercier says about it:

  • Long wear
  • Bi-phase formula
  • Oil Free
  • Buildable coverage
  • Matte finish
  • Blurs imperfections
  • Lightweight
  • Perfect for all ages, skin-tones and skin-type

Foundation no box

Makeup Bag (Similar) // Lipstick // Gloss // Liner

Back of box

Ingredients

Let me start by saying this is a thin foundation (I find it similar to the Chanel Vitalumiére Aqua foundation – Review HERE)  which I really like. You have to shake it really well and open the lid facing down otherwise I find that it comes out watery. I definitely agree that this is a medium buildable matte foundation and one that is long wearing. It is not as long wearing as Estee Lauder’s Double Wear line but it has staying power.

Colour of foundation

I make sure that I moisturize my face well before I apply this foundation and have not had any problems with it sticking to any dry patch I may have. The box recommends that you use either your fingers or a sponge to apply this foundation but I stick with my favorite foundation brush the Sigma F84. I find that this buffs the foundation in really well and gives me a streak free finish. I also make sure to set my foundation with a powder after. This really helps me get the long wear out of the foundation.

Swatch1 Swatch2

I do have one complaint about this foundation and that is the lid! I find that it is awful. It leaks if you store it downwards which is the only way it will stand up. I have ended up storing it top up in the box still so that no more of the product will be wasted.

Messy top

Apart from the lid I would definitely recommend this foundation especially, if like me, you like the Chanel Vitalumiére Aqua foundation or the Chanel Perfection Lumière Velvet foundation (review HERE). Additionally, I like that they have a rather large selection of colours.

What are some foundations you guys recommend? I’m already on the hunt to try a new one!

Heal5ium Mousse and Gel

All use!

I never really do a lot with my hair, occasionally I will straighten it or use a waving wand, but I have found 2 products I do like to use when I want to give it more volume and hold. My hairdresser at Republic Salon in Athens used them when I was getting it cut and I loved the effect they gave. They are the Heal5ium mousse and Gel. See below for more information on both of these products.

The first one is the Heal5ium aiHr whipp volumizing mousse (~ $20.50). This is a great volumizing mousse. I have very fine hair but this stuff packs the volume in. Not only that but it is fortified with sunscreen to help protect your hair. This is especially great for those that colour your hair. Additionally, it has Linseed Oil to add shine and Wheat Germ to strengthen.

Mouse use

Volumizing Mousse // Lip balm // Lipstick // Powder

Louis Vuitton Makeup bag // Lipstick // Lip Gloss

I start by shaking the bottle well and squirting it upside down into my hand. I only use a small amount. This takes me to the Heal5ium Gel Hold 5 Working Gel (~ $15). My hairdresser mixed the two products. After squirting the mousse in my hand I would add just a little bit of the gel on top of the mousse. I then mix this in my hand and rub it through my hair. I usually add a tiny bit of the gel (can be used on wet or dry hair) onto my hand after and rub that through my hair (this helps hold hair when it is styled). Then blow dry your hair and style it however you want! You will have MAJOR volume, hold (and colour protection) all day long!

Gel use

Working Gel / Candle

Have you guys ever heard of Heal5ium because I had not until I got my hair cut. However, I not only love using these 2 products but I also really like that they are sulphate free, sodium chloride free, paraben free, botanical based, UV protectant, water soluble, virtually weightless and they do not test on Animals!

What hair products have you guys tried that you love? I would love to hear about them!

Lots of Love,

Buffy x
