Akyaka, Turkey! Flashback Friday

Akyaka

As we move in to October and the summer months are behind us I like to think back to summer holidays and remember the fun trips I took. Here are a few photos from last summer when my sister and I took a trip to Akyaka, Turkey. You met my sister earlier this week in a guest post. You can read that here!

Akyaka is right on the coast with mountains in the background and also a popular destination for kite surfing (not that either of us do that).

Here are some pictures from the trip:Akyaka, Hotel

We stayed at the Ottoman Residence, which was sort of like a big house, that had a huge open area when you walked in and then the rooms were off of that.

The upstairs had 2 twin beds but we ended up sleeping downstairs on the pull out sofa because the upstairs was too hot the first night (the AC was broken). We just ended up sleeping downstairs the whole time.

The beach was just a short 10 minute walk away.

One of my favourite parts of the trip was taking a boat out for the day. It was a mix between sailing and anchoring down in coves and jumping off the boat to swim. One of the final stops was Cleopatra’s Island where the water was crystal clear and so warm. You are actually required to shower before leaving the island because the sand is protected (you are also not allowed beach bags or towels on the beach)! There is a lot of myth and mystery behind the sand because there is none other like it in Turkey – each grain is a perfect sphere made from seashells. Legend says that Cleopatra’s lover, Marc Anthony, brought the sand over from Egypt to the island as a gift for her.

I wish I had more pictures because this last one does not do it justice. It is so beautiful there.

The hotel was also by a stream (with the clearest water I have ever seen) that you could walk along as you went into town.

You never really knew what you were going to get food wise at the hotel as sometimes we would order the same thing but get different things?? but it was all still good! We also found restaurants in the town to eat at that were good!
